I read an article a few days ago that talked about the Uma Thurman/Luke Wilson flop My Super Ex-Girlfriend. For the crowds of people who wisely decided to not watch this flick, the movie was about some guy who finds out that his girlfriend is a local superhero, a la Wonder Woman, Supergirl etc. The guy finds out about her powers, promptly dumps her, and then proceeds to get stalked by Thurman. Hilarity ensues. The big deal about that flick was power issues; when a Regular Joe dates affluent women , does that make him less of a man? Should the wealthy and powerful stick to dating the wealthy and powerful?

The Pacific Rim is overflowing with singles these days. You can’t throw a rock without hitting an eligible single, and the cities that look out on to the Pacific Ocean are hotspots for Asian singles. Cities like Portland and Seattle are no longer depressing logging towns devoid of possibilities- they’ve been electrified by the Asian dating scene (and by little tiny factors like gorgeous surroundings and an incredibly high standard of living). It’s locales like these as well as burgeoning online presence that has made the Asian single scene such an exciting environment.

The match game: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, other times it’s a draw. Some folks have the lofty goal of meeting a soul mate, while others take dating quantity over quality. Nowadays, the game isn’t the same somehow. We seem no longer to accept spending much time on meeting anyone. We aren’t desperate, just selective with hectic schedules supposedly.

Christian dating ideas are plentiful these days. The church is still one of the primary places to meet people, as wholesome as church service can be. After all, when you’re amongst your congregation you can be sure that, if nothing else, your would-be partner shares a similar faith. Church service remains incredibly formal however, although that formality tends to weed out creepy single guys on the prowl for religious honeys (the formality of church is not a rock solid screening system however - there are definitely some creepy gents who make up for their lack of likeability with determination). There are plenty of other options for the Christian dating scene - let’s go through that list shall we?

I find that something that seems a relative rarity suddenly seems to pop up in front of your face at a rapidly recurring pace. I’ve heard various theories of how the human mind has a tendency to notice patterns in events that are otherwise random. Sometimes what we assume is unlikely is actually commonplace and other times what we believe can’t be coincidence is easily just that. At any rate, in my city lately on the subway and out on the town in restaurants, bars and clubs, I’ve noticed quite a few people communicating using sign language.

I remember the first time that I hit East Harlem. This was the late nineties, after the whole crack epidemic had started to die down and Spanish Harlem was starting to become livable again. I was there visiting my Spanish girlfriend who had moved from suburbia to El Barrio to see how one of the centers of Hispanic-American life had repaired itself, and she and I were pleased to see how vibrant the Hispanic community had become. The Latin dating community is also thriving these days, and with Hispanic dating sites booming, it’s easier than ever to find a Latina/Latino lover who’s just right for you.

Another long weekend has just flow by with parties and clubs. I keep reminding myself that at 35 that I should behave slightly more responsibly than I have done so in the past. In a way, I guess I do act slightly more mature, since I do at least respect my limits slightly better than I once did. However, the bar wasn’t set so high in my youth.

It’s sometimes difficult to find someone who you’re not only attracted to, but also shares similar values. This is a secular world we live in, and many women are a bit put off by mixing religion and romance. Shyness can be avoided, but even the greatest amount of confidence can’t overcome basic lifestyle differences. Men who follow the Jewish faith don’t have it any easier than their gentile brethren, and finding a Jewish girlfriend or Jewish mistress can make for a terrible headache.

Are you in love with me?I think this has to be the most powerful relationship question you can ask. Not to be confused with ‘do you love me?’ which is the same as asking if someone cares for you, this question, above all else, drives to the root of relationships. Being in love with someone is something extraordinary. It’s being in love that builds castles on clouds, makes impossible treks seem possible and tells those fighting for it that it is worth dying for.
