Admittedly, many sex dating sites have somewhat shady reputations. Not as far as I’m concerned from a safety standpoint, but rather many folks claim that too many of the profiles are too good to be true. I suppose in some cases the people might have a point, but my attitude is that in all venues you’ll find individuals who pose as something, or someone, they’re not. Ah, Facebook. You allow me to look and judge people who I haven’t seen in nearly a decade, without having to humiliate myself by going to a high school reunion. There are a couple of recurring patterns that I’ve noticed. 1) Most of the people I knew when I was 17 stuck to the same general area and if they moved far away from their hometown, rest assured they don’t have a Facebook entry. 2) There’s a surprising number of relationships (well, two) that actually lasted from high school and are still kicking today. At the time of my first couple of high school relationships, I always kept myself buoyant by telling myself that my girlfriend and I are gonna buck the puppy love trend and make it last (yeah right). Filling out my profile on Facebook or a dating personals site, I wonder if my past self thought I’d still be single at the age I am now. I also wonder, can teen relationships last?

I overheard a co-worker discuss the representation of lesbians in romantic movies/TV shows/ etc, and he felt that lesbians didn’t get a fair portrayal. Lesbians were either represented by hetero pop fantasies (the curse of the lipstick lesbians), or portrayed as grunting behemoths. Hetero versions of lesbians aren’t likely to be fair and balanced, but do hetero fantasies consist solely of the mythical lipstick lesbian? lesbian dream girls can be pretty hard to define (or find for that matter). Are lesbian fantasies solely limited to scantily-clad underwear models having pillow fights? Lesbian dating sites should give most people a clue, but unfortunately realistic portrayal s of lesbians often fall on deaf ears.

I was talking about Muslim dating sites and hot Muslim guys with my Lebanese friend and she told me an interesting thing about Islam. Apparently, men (maybe this goes for women, too, but I don’t know) have to be completely clean in order to pray. This means they can’t talk to God unless they’ve washed their hands. The cleansing process is a little more in-depth than simply washing your hands though. The entire body has to be clean. My friend joked that even if a guy has cleaned properly and then accidentally farts, he’s got to go through the process all over again before he can pray.

I’m not going to blow anybody’s mind when I say this, but trust has got to be one of the most basic foundations of a decent relationship. Trust can elevate a good time to a rock solid bond. Let’s face it, no one wants to devote a huge amount of time and energy for someone who can’t be entrusted to do the simplest things. Not that baseless faith is anything to be happy about either. When all trust is gone, we have to ask ourselves, “Is this worthwhile? Can this guy/gal be there for me when the going gets tough?”

Call me superficial, but the main reason I’m a strong supporter of interracial dating is because I love beautiful interracial babies. Whether it’s a classic African-American boy with some exotic Persian blood in the mix, or a pretty girl with a combination of Malaysian and Caucasian, racial diversity is aesthetically fascinating.

I have a thing for women with authority. I believe in equality in relationships. A chick who is too passive, who never takes charge of a situation and who waits for me to make all the decisions makes me feel more like a parent than a boyfriend. I’ve never had a serious relationship with a military girlfriend or gone out with a police officer or anything like that, but I’ve always had the idea sitting in the back of my mind. I know military dating isn’t for everyone, particularly because of the long periods of physical separation due to overseas missions, but soldiers have somehow managed to balance work with their personal lives for years.

In a recent study, researchers at Indiana University examined the behavior of men and women during a speed-dating session and came up with some not-so-surprising findings. Apparently, when it comes to finding a mate, men go for beauty, while women look for the guy with financial security. You mean to say men aren’t concerned about their future housewive’s earning potential and women don’t go for beautiful men? No shocker here. It’s not as if we needed the stats from wealthy dating sites to let us in on this fact.

One of the perennial favorites of the weekly freebie (you know, the free weekly newspaper that’s published in most metropolitan areas) remains the phone sex ads. I’ve never met anybody that’s confessed to using them - not that calling 1-900-HOTTIE is cause for celebration, but I’ve never heard anybody gingerly admit that they’ve used their services. There’s clearly a demand for them, but I think more people are flocking to sex dating sites rather than wasting time and breath on a phone sex operator. Everybody wants a sexy babe, and even hetero women can appreciate the beauty of the female form (or at least they’re more candid about their admiration for the same gender than their hetero guy counterparts). Not that I’m trying to equate phone sex with dating sites, but intimate encounters don’t necessarily have to take place with a phone in your hand.
