Certain singles that I know (and love) have these wild ideas of what constitutes a proper romantic life. A few years ago, this acquaintance of mine complained that men aren't like the dude from The English Patient, that the romantic sparks that they were hoping for were simply nonexistent in the real world. Certain friends of mine also beleive that people from other, non-Anglo backgrounds were also more romantic and dreamy. One girl in particular met some Latin guy in Cuba, stayed with him for a grand total of ten days, and now wants to invite him up to Vancouver so that they can be together (she could have saved some time and energy and simply hit a Latin dating site, but that's another topic). There seems to be this sense of "the grass is greener on the other side" when it comes to the dating scene - if you're from some exotic country, that means that you MUST be more romantic than the local schmucks.
